In dioecious plants, male flowers termed a staminate flower, and female flowers, termed as pistillate flowers, are borne on different; plants. Thus plants are either male or female. Examples: Papaya, date palm, etc. In monoecious plants, male and female flowers are present on the same plants. Example: Maize, coconut, cucurbits, etc.
