Solution: Let p(x) = x2 + 3x + m Since (x + 4) or (x – (-4)} is a factor of p(x). ∴ p(-4) = 0 ⇒ (-4)2 + 3(-4) + m = 0 ⇒ 16 – 12 + m = 0 ⇒ m = -4
