A body of mass 2 kg, initially moving with a velocity of 10 m/s, collides with another body of mass 5 kg at rest. After collision velocity of first body becomes 1 m/s. Find the velocity of second body.

Given, Mass M1 =2 KG Mass M2 = 5 kg Initial velocity U1 = 10 m/s Initial velocity U2 =0 m/s Final velocity V1 = 1 m/s We have to find the velocity of second body after collision Let velocity of the second body be v We know, According to law of conservation of linear momentum M1U1+M2U2=M1V1+M2V2 Or, (2×10)+(5×0)=(2×1)+(5×v) Or, 20=2+5v After solving v=3.6 m/s Hence, velocity of the second body after collision is 3.6 m/s
