What is upthrust? What are the quantities that can vary upthrust? How does it account for the floating of a body? When a partially immersed body is pressed down a little, what will happen to the upthrust?

1The upward force that a liquid or gas exerts on a body floating in it. When a body is immersed in water then an upthrust acts on the body which is equal to the weight of the water displaced, but when extra force is applied and the body gets immersed a little more the body sinks as the weight gets increased as compared to the upthrust which results in a little sink in the body's position.
