What is the difference between additive and subtractive colour theory?
The colours are perceived by us in a certain way due to certain reason. There are two theories that explain the formation of colours. I) Additive theory II) Subtractive theory. The additive theory was explained by James Clark Maxwell around the 1800s. The theory speaks of three primary colours, which are Red, Green and Blue. When these three colours are mixed in equal proportions, white colour is expressed. And if in a combination the three primary colours are absent, black is formed. The combination of two primary colours forms different colours. Subtractive theory, is when we see a white light, it means all the primary colours are present. All the wavelengths of colours form white, but when we see only one coloured object it means that all the other wavelengths of colours are absorbed and only single coloured rays are being reflected.
