An edict column is a Lion capital which was constructed by Emperor Ashok at Sarnath, commemorating the first sermon of Buddha that has been adopted as an emblem for modern India. Axis Mundi is the symbol that symbolises the connection between the earth and sky and the shaft that appeared to be a culmination of an older pre-Buddhist with the religious tradition of the axis head or Mundi.
