The main constituent of stainless steel is iron. The main alloy ingredient is chromium. Stainless steel, by definition, must contain at least 10.5% chromium. Alloy steel is made by combining carbon steel with one or several alloying elements, such as manganese, silicon, nickel, titanium, copper, chromium, and aluminum.
