In January 17, 1977, Gary Gilmore was executed by a firing squad at 8:07 a.m. He sat in a chair at the Utah State Prison and was asked for any last words before his death. Gary Gilmore replied with, “Let's do it.” These three bold words inspired the famous “Just do it” for the Nike slogan 11 years later, in 1988.
