Top USA food consumption days - Xmas Thanksgiving and what ?
Thanksgiving is the biggest feast day, way over the closest competitor. It is also the only set menu day. Although traditionally eaten at home, it has recently become a big restaurant day also, and again the menu is set. It is turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, cooked vegetables which may be peas, little onions, green beans, brussels sprouts, winter squash, and pan gravy, loads of pan gravy, and pies, oh so many sweet pies. Mostly pumpkin, but also apple, berries, lemon meringue, any pie will do. 46 million turkeys are eaten every Thanksgiving, and they appear at 95% of our dinners! They average 15 lbs. Thats over a pound of turkey per person in the US, but never fear, there are lots of leftovers. Thanksgiving is ALL about the meal. Christmas devours 22 million turkeys and Easter another 19, we're too full of candy eggs at Easter. But Christmas is all about gifts and religion and decorations and not primarily a feast in the US, and Easter is a religious holiday, only Thanksgiving is pure food!
