Pedals was added to bicycles in 1839. It was invented by a "Scottish blacksmith" named "Kirkpatrick Macmillan". His pedaled bicycle included an iron-rimmed wooden wheel with a steering wheel at the front and a larger which got connected to the pedals through connecting rods.
