Why metals are electropositive and non-metals are electronegative in nature?

Metals are electropositive in nature because all metals give away electrons from their outermost shell in order to complete the octet and become stable. So metals become positively charged. Non-metals are electronegative in nature because all non-metals gain electrons in order to complete the octet and become stable. So non-metals become negatively charged.
