Sonar stands for Sound Navigation And Ranging. It is a device which is used to find distance, direction and speed of underwater objects like, water hills, valleys, icebergs, submarines, sunken ships etc. Uses of SONAR:- Sonar uses sound waves to 'see' in the water. NOAA scientists primarily use sonar to develop nautical charts, locate underwater hazards to navigation, search for and map objects on the seafloor such as shipwrecks, and map the seafloor itself.
