Bipolar transistors are not intended to be used as diodes. Use diodes if you need the diode functionality. A bipolar transistor is modeled as equivalent to two diodes connected back-to-back with a common anode or cathode terminal. The common terminal, which serves as the base terminal of a bipolar transistor, is fabricated using a fine pattern process in order to achieve electrical characteristics necessary for a transistor; its structure is completely different from that of a diode.
