(a) (i) Implantation is the process wherein a fertilised egg (zygote) formed in the fallopian tube gets embedded on the walls of the uterus, inside the female body. (ii) Placenta is a vascular structure present in the inner lining of the uterus. It is connected to the foetus by the umbilical cord. The embryo receives nutrition and oxygen from the mother’s blood via the placenta. (b) The average duration of human pregnancy is nine months.
