Explain the process of breakdown of glucose in a cell (i) in the presence of oxygen, (ii) in the absence of oxygen.
(i) in presence of oxygen In presence of oxygen, glucose break into carbon dioxide and water. This type of respiration is called aerobic respiration. In this type of respiration more energy is released Glucose + Oxygen → Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy (ii) in absence of oxygen In absence of oxygen, glucose break into lactic acid in muscle and into ethyl alcohol in yeast . This type of respiration is called anaerobic respiration. In this type of respiration less energy is released Glucose → Alcohol + Carbon dioxide + Energy (in yeast) Glucose → Lactic acid + Energy (in muscle)
