Types of RNA polymerase required in nucleus for RNA synthesis? [2001] (a) 1 (b) 2 (c) 3 (d) 4
Option D RNA polymerase is an enzyme that is responsible for copying a DNA sequence into an RNA sequence, during the process of transcription. Eukaryotes have three types of nuclear RNAP, each responsible for the synthesis of a distinct subset of RNA. RNA polymerase I synthesize a pre-rRNA 45S (35S in yeast), which matures and forms the major RNA sections of the ribosome. RNA polymerase II synthesizes precursors of mRNAs and most snRNA and microRNAs. RNA polymerase III synthesizes tRNAs, rRNA 5S and other small RNAs found in the nucleus and cytosol.
