Option CRBCs are devoid of a nucleus in most of the mammals. This adaptation the RBCs to carry the maximum amount of Hb and hence the maximum amount of oxygen. The lack of a nucleus also gives the RBCs their characteristic biconcave shape and allows them to have a higher surface area for diffusion.
