(b) A taxonomic rank in classification is the relative level of a group of organisms in a taxonomic hierarchy. The order of classification is a kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species. A genus is a taxonomic rank.  It is a group of related species. A family is a higher rank to the genus hence, consists of a group of related genera. (a) Biological classification is a process of scientifically putting an organism in a hierarchical series of sub-groups and groups based on their dissimilarities and similarities with all the other members of the group. In biological classification, the order is the taxonomic rank between the class and family. A class contains one or more orders having related characteristics. Order can be further divided into one or more sub-orders.
