What is the name the President of India who was elected unopposed?
The president of India is the most powerful citizen in India who is positioned as the ceremonial head of India and the commander in chief of the Indian Armed Forces. The president is elected through the direct election by the electoral college. This group consisted of members of the Indian parliament (both houses) and the legislative assemblies of each of the Indian states and union territories, which are directly elected. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was elected the first president without opposition. In 1977 when the President in position, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed died suddenly. The first nominee for that position was Rukmini Devi Arundale by the Prime minister, Morarji Desai. When she turned down the offer, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was selected as the next president. Reddy worked with three governments including Prime minister Morarji Desai, Charan Singh and Indira Gandhi. Reddy was a kind hearted person who stood by his moral values and simplicity. During his term he announced that he would move from Rashtrapati Bawan to a smaller house and cut wages by up to in solidarity with the poor masses of India.
