State the difference between sodium atom and sodium ion.

i Sodium atom is neutral in nature while sodium ion is a positively charged particle. ii Sodium atom vigorously reacts with water to liberate hydrogen gas while sodium ion does not react with water. iii Sodium atom tends to lose an electron to form sodium ion with a complete octet in the outermost shell.
