Option C. The meninges is the membranous coverings of the brain and spinal cord. It has three layers of protective tissues namely, dura mater, arachnoid mater and pia mater. Dura mater is the outermost covering present underneath the bones. Arachnoid is the middle layer present underneath the dura mater. There is space called sub-arachnoid space directly underneath the arachnoid. It contains cerebrospinal fluid, which acts as cushion for the brain. Pia mater is present underneath the sub-arachnoid space. It is adhere to the surface of brain and spinal cord.
