Option A. A food bolus is a mass of crushed food which is moistened with saliva.  ∙ The mastication of food that occurs in the mouth with the help of teeth breaks down the food into smaller fragments. As it mixes with the saliva it forms the food bolus.  ∙ It is easier for the food to move through the oesophagus in this form so that it can easily reach the stomach.
