Many flightless birds grew to be extinct because of their incapacity to fly. However, others have unique adaptations that protect them from a comparable fate. For example, ostriches can outrun most of their predators and can also supply a deadly kick with their clawed feet. Others, like penguins, are extremely good swimmers. Most flightless birds have colors that help them combination in to their surroundings.
