Fish that live in the freezing seas of Antarctica have an anti-freeze chemical (glyco protein) in their blood that prevents it from freezing. This permits them to live in icy water. This is the ice fish and cod’s survival trick. Other Antarctic fish like barracuda, skates, krill and lantern fish have blood that circulates very slowly. This capacity that they can retailer their energy and use it to continue to be alive.
