Can a tortoise swim?
Tortoises have stubby, strong feet and a heavy shell, which is why they go about slowly. They stay totally on land. Although a few species of tortoise can swim, most of them cannot. Turtles, however, are advanced swimmers, with webbed toes that help them to paddle thru water. Smaller turtles do the most swimming.
