By 3000 BC, humans knew the way to tie a cotton sail. Sails allowed humans to apply wind energy as opposed to muscle energy. Now humans used ships for trade. By 1200 BC, the Phoenicians and Greeks constructed buying and selling ships that had unique locations to keep the cargo. By 500 BC, that they'd ships with masts.
