What is meant by the term the Sangam Age?
The age of the Sangam literature is considered to be a marker in south Indian history. The word ‘Sangam’ has been denoted from the Tamil word ‘Sangha’ which indicates an assembly or association. This was an age where a lot of literature was been produced in Tamil by a group of poets during poetic gatherings called ‘Sangam’. The Sangam literature was composed in the south by poets and laureates during first and second century in the Pandean kingdom which acted as a bridge between the spiritual confluence and local mind set of the people.
