Who was Fa-hien? What did he say about India?
Fa-Hien was a Chinese pilgrim who visited India during the period of Chandragupta II. He came to India for his religious mission. He visited many pilgrimage places in India and keenly observe many places. According to him, Magadha and Pataliputra were prosperous and flourishing cities respectively. People were living a prosperous life and used to practice different religions. Fa-Hein also mentioned the Penal code and the images of Indian gods and goddesses on the coins here. Fa-Hein visited India for his religious mission and wrote a book about the same. He visited the religious cities of India, and also called Magadha and Pataliputra prosperous cities.
