In the 16th century, several Christians formed groups and revolted against the church. They led the reformation movement. But this led to a rift between Christians. Some people stayed loyal to the pope and some spoke up against the injustices. Later on, were known as protestants. In some other parts of the world, Protestantism was known as Calvinism, puritanism, and Presbyterianism. Final Answer The protestants were the people who initially led the reformation movement.
