When had France become a Republic?

On 21st Sep. 1792, it damaged the monarchy and declared France a republic. A republic is a form of government where the citizens elect the government including the head of the government. There was a Republic type of government in France till 1804 when Napoleon claimed the throne. France became a Republic in 1792 and stayed until Napoleon declared himself as Emperor of France in 1804.
