Tripartite means composed of or split into three parties. The tripartite treaty was signed between Japan, Italy, and Germany in 1940. These countries formed the Axis powers. The leader of Germany was Adolf Hitler, the leader of Japan was Emperor Hirohito, and the leader of Italy was Benito Mussolini. This was one of the reasons which started World War II. In September 1940, a tripartite pact was signed between the countries of Germany, Italy and Japan.
