In 1933, the German Reichstag (Diet) passed a law called the Enabling Act which enabled Adolf Hitler to assume dictatorial powers. This law gave Hitler absolute power to make laws, which enabled him to destroy all opposition to his rule. Without the Reichstag's approval, Hitler got the right to make laws for the next four years by this Enabling Act.
