Destruction of democracy’ in Germany Came in January 1933, when President Hindenburg offered the Chancellorship to Hitler. Chancellorship was the highest position in the Cabinet. By 1932, the Nazi party had become the largest party with 37% votes in Reichstag -(the German Parliament). Hitler did not believe in democracy. So, he took steps to destroy democracy in Germany. Hitler began to work against the Weimar Republic. A mysterious fire had broken out in the Parliament building in the month of February. Later, Hitler issued the Fire decree and he suspended civic rights like the freedom of speech, press, and assembly which were guaranteed by the Weimer constitution. Later the famous Enabling Act was passed. This act led to dictatorship in Germany.
