The colonial government during 1871 passed an act known as the Criminal Tribes Act. By this act many people who belonged to the category of craftsmen, traders were classified as criminal tribes. By nature and birth, they were stated to be criminals. Final answer They were forced to work in factories, mines, and plantations under British supervision.
