The main causes of the revolt of Bastar are as follows: The British stopped shifting cultivation which affected the people of Bastar. They were prohibited from using forests for grazing animals or acquiring raw material. Some of the villagers were allowed to enter reserved forests only on the conditions that they would cut trees and transport them for free. Britishers increased the land rents and forced the laborers to work in mines to keep them away from forest trading.
