How were forests classified on the basis of the Forest Act, 1878 ?
Under Forest Act 1878 the forests were classified as follows: Reserved Forests: The forests which are owned and controlled by the Government of India are known as Reserved Forests. Protected Forests: The forests which are notified under the provisions of the Indian forest act and have a limited degree of limitations are known as protected forests. Village Forests: The forests which are guarded by the villagers are known as village forests.
