What is shifting cultivation? Why did the Europeans decide to ban it?
Shift cultivation is the agricultural practice where the land is temporarily cultivated and later burned because of losing its productiveness by the cultivators. The reasons for the Europeans to ban this practice are because of its effect on the timber and become difficult to collect taxes because of its temporary nature.
