Consider the following points: There is a common belief among the people of Bastar that the island was given to them by the mother earth and in return, they look after the earth by making some offerings to each agricultural festival. Local people look after all the natural resources within that boundary. People taking wood from another village forest, have to pay a minimal amount. Also, watchmen are engaged to look after their forests, and grains are contributed by each household in form of payment
