Give a comparative account of the classes of Kingdom Fungi under the following: (i) mode of nutrition
Explanation Mode of nutrition- Fungi are the organisms which lack pigment called chlorophyll and that’s why unable to make their own food, so they do heterotrophic mode of nutrition. So according to mode of nutrition , they are divided into 2 types- Parasites- They obtain their nutrition by different living or non living organisms it may be plant or animals. Example- Puccinia and Taphrina. Saprophytes- In this mode, they derive their food from dead and decaying organic matter. Example – Penicillium. Symbiotic- This type lives with an interdependent manner with other species, where both are benefited. Example- Lichens and the mycorrhiza. Final Answer Fungi are the organisms which are classified differently by different authors on different basis, in every fungi structure; the structure of mycelium remains the same, that’s why we want different basis for their classification like mode of nutrition and reproduction.
