Explanation Amniocentesis is a diagnostic technique which uses amniotic fluid drawn from uterus to detect and treat chromosomal/genetic abnormalities or any development problems in developing fetus. However, Amniocentesis is increasingly misused for sex detection of growing fetus. This lead to indiscriminate female foeticide. Although the ban on amniocentesis for sex determination should not be there however, in country like India where ignorance and illiteracy is prevalent, the ban is justified. This ban is very important to protect female fetus, maintaining the male female ratio and raising the social and economic status of women. Final Answer To prevent female foeticide in our country, it is necessary to ban the use of amniocentesis for sex determination.
