Differentiate between the following – (c) Monohybrid and Dihybrid
Monohybrid is a cross between two pure organisms to study the inheritance of a single pair of allele. It has phenotypic ratio of 3:1 in F_2 generation. It has genotypic ratio of 1:2:1 in the F₂ generation. Dihybrid is the cross between two pure organisms to study the inheritance of two pairs of alleles. It has phenotypic ratio of 9:3:3:1 in the F_2 generation. It has genotypic ratio of 1:2:1:2:4:2:1:2:1 in the F₂ generation. Monohybrid is a study of inheritance of a single pair of allele. While dihybrid is study of inheritance of two pairs of allele.
