The two strands of DNA complement each other and are antiparallel (arranged or moving in opposite directions) making the DNA replication semi-conservative. In the semi-conservative model proposed by Watson and Crick, the two strands of the parental molecule separate, and each function as a template for the synthesis of a new, complementary strand. This results in the formation of two copies of DNA, each containing the original strand (parent strand) and one new daughter strand. DNA replication is semiconservative
