Describe one example of adaptive radiation.
Explanation 1. Microbes are generally used as biofertilizers to improve the quality of soil nutrients, Example: - 1. Rhizobium in Leguminous plants (in legume root), 2. Azotobacter and Azospirillum etc can fix atmospheric nitrogen in soil. The root nodules of symbiotic plants are formed by symbiotic association of Rhizobium. The bacteria can fix atmospheric nitrogen in the soil forming a symbiotic association. The atmospheric nitrogen is fixed into organic form by the bacteria, which is used by plants as nutrient. Fungi also form symbiotic association with the plant (mycorrhiza). The fungal symbiont absorbs the phosphorous from the soil and passes it to the soil while forming an association. 2. Bacteria’s like Bacillus thuringiensis are used as biopesticides. They control the growth of insect pests. They are also known as BT cotton. Specially used in cotton plants to stop the growth of bacteria. 3. Cyanobacteria are the types of microbes which are widely distributed in aquatic and terrestrial environment. It also serves as an important fertilizer in paddy field. 4. Blue green algae are also one of the biofertilizer, they gives organic matter to the soil and also increase their fertility. Final Answer We have realized that there are problems associated with the overuse of chemical fertilizers, so people are choosing organic fertilizers over chemical fertilizers. The main source of bio-fertilizers are fungi, bacteria and cyanobacteria. In our country a number of bio-fertilizers are available in the markets and farmers use them in the field
