Single-cell protein(SCP) 1. Single-cell protein is produced from some microorganisms. E.g. Candida utilis, Chlorella, Spirulina, Saccharomyces etc. 2. It contains all the essential amino acids and can be used as an alternate source of proteins in animal feeds. Both autotrophs and heterotrophs can be used as SCP 3.Microorganisms are grown on an industrial scale to produce the desired protein in a short time span 4. Spirulina, a single cell protein can be grown on waste materials like molasses, sewage, and animal manures. It is provided in the tablet form.Microrganisms are used for the production of single-cell protein as well as it is used to maintain soil fertility and enrich its nutrients.
