Stirred tank bioreactors are preferred over shake flasks because of their enhanced properties like the presence of a base that is curved and thus facilitate mixing of contents. It has various control systems that are helpful in the overall working of the reactor. The temperature control system keeps the temperature under check. pH control system regulates the pH of the reactor. There is a system for the control of the delivery of oxygen which checks the quantity of oxygen. Foam is also controlled with the help of foam control system. The presence of sampling ports is helpful in taking out small amounts of sample from time to time. Therefore, it is advantageous over shake flasks.
