Which separation techniques will you apply for the separation of the following? (b) Ammonium chloride from a mixture containing sodium chloride and ammonium chloride.
Sublimation: It is a process by which solid directly changes into gas without changing into liquid state. There are few substances which exhibit such properties, one of them is ammonium chloride. When the solution containing ammonium chloride and sodium chloride is heated in a beaker, ammonium chloride gets sublime at a lower temperature than sodium chloride which does not exhibit such properties. During the process, ammonium chloride gas is collected that is produced at a temperature of 330-350°C. Hence by the help of sublimation, we can separate ammonium chloride from the mixture of sodium chloride .
