Amoeba engulf it’s food using pseudopodia, pseudo means false and podia means septum i.e. false septum, and this process of obtaining its food is known as endocytosis or phagocytosis. As amoeba have flexible cell membrane, so they are capable to expands and restricts its shape according to need. This ability helps to form pseudopodia . Pseudopodia is long finger like extension of amoeboid body which capture the food particle and then form a food vacuole around it , after trapping the particle , amoeba secretes the digestive enzymes which results in breakdown of complex food particle into the simpler one, after breakdown the food particle get diffuses through the cytoplasm and remaining undigested particles removed out through the cell . That’s how amoeba obtain its food with the help of pseudopodia . Endocytosis: It is a cellular process by which any particle or substance brought actively in to the cell. This process used mainly when particle or matter doesn’t pass the cell membrane passively , in that case , vacuole formed over the particle which help the particle to pass it through cell membrane.
