If the object falls freely towards the bottom, the potential energy of the body decreases and kinetic energy will keep increasing. When the object touches the ground, the potential energy gets converted into kinetic energy. And when the object hits the ground this kinetic energy gets converted into heat energy, sound energy and gets transferred to the ground making an impact on the ground. Potential energy → Kinetic energy→Heat and Sound energy So, the kinetic energy gets converted into heat energy, sound energy and gets transferred to the ground eventually.
