Explain the technology used by the peasants for the cultivation during the Mughal period.
There was a constant expansion of agriculture during the Mughal Period. It depended mainly on the monsoons. But artificial systems of irrigation were also devised. There are many instances to prove it such as follows : The state undertook the digging of new canals (Nahar or Nala). The state also undertook the repair of old canals like the Shah-Nahar in Punjab. The farmers used those technologies which harnessed animal power. There was the use of a wooden plough which was light. It had an iron tip or coulter. There was also the use of a drill. It was pulled by a pair of giant oxen used to plant seeds. A narrow iron blade with a small wooden handle was also used to hoe and weed.
