What does NDA stand for?

NDA, National Defence Academy is an Indian military academy that trains young enthusiasts for defence services. It's a tri-service academy where cadets from the Air Force, the Navy and the Army trains together before they head to respective academies for greater understanding in the corresponding forces.

What is NDA Exam conducted for?

NDA stands for National Defence Academy, UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts NDA Exam twice a year. It is a joint service academy offering admissions for training of cadets aiming to join Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air force.

What are the eligibility requirements for NDA Exam?

  • Indian citizenship is mandatory for candidate.
  • Age should be between seventeen to nineteen and a half years
  • Should be unmarried
  • Should have passed class 12th from a recognised university
  • Physical and Mental fitness should be according to the guidelines issued by NDA

What is the mode of registration?

The registrations are accepted online. Candidates can find the link to the registration form on the official website of UPSC.

Is there any registration fee for NDA Exam?

Yes, a registration fee of ₹100 is charged from the candidates. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category are liberated from any fee charge.

How many attempts are allowed to a candidate for NDA Exam?

One can apply as many times he wants as long as he fulfils the age and other criteria.

Is it allowed to fill another application/registration form in case of some mistake?

Yes, you can fill another form in case of some problem but it should be filled using a different mail ID.

Are women candidates allowed in NDA Exam?

No, women candidates are not eligible to apply for NDA Exam.

What is the paper pattern for NDA Exam?

There are two stages, namely:

  • Written exam – The mode of this exam is offline. It involves two sections:
  1. GAT (General Ability Test) – It is for 600 marks, candidates are given two and a half hours for this section. There are total 150 questions and for every correct answer the candidate is awarded with 4 marks each.
  2. Mathematics – It is for 300 marks, candidates are given two and a half hours for this section too. There are total 120 questions, each correct answer is awarded with 2.5 marks.

SSB Interview – It stands for 900 marks. SSB interview involves various physical and mental tests and the whole procedure can take around 4 to 5 days.

Is there a system of negative marking in NDA paper?

Yes, there is a system of negative marking. In GAT section a deduction of 1.33 marks takes place in case of a wrong answer where as in Mathematics section the deduction is of 0.83 marks.

What syllabus is prescribed for NDA Exam?

  • GAT
  1. English – usage of grammar and vocabulary
  2. General knowledge – Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography, General Science and Current Affairs.
Mathematics
  • Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, Differential equations, Logarithms,
  • Statistics, Probability, Vector Algebra, Mensuration, etc.

What should a candidate expect after qualifying NDA Exam?

After qualifying all the stages candidates are admitted to NDA for a three year course equivalent to Graduation. After completing this tenure candidates as per their inclination and merit can opt for any of the three Indian defence services; Indian Army, Indian Air force and Indian Navy.
